BANKSY’S IDENTITY TO BE REVEALED AT BRISTOL FILM FESTIVAL?
Many have tried and many have failed to unveil the true identity of world famous street artist Banksy. We can be pretty sure Banksy is from Bristol but that’s where the knowledge of the illusive and captivating artist ends. Hell, Banksy could even be a woman. Now, the Encounters International Film Festival which takes place this month (Nov 16-21) is proposing to reveal the true identity of Banksy once and for all. The Bristol based festival boasts an unbeatable selection of time lapse films showing the very best in graffiti art, which will include previously unseen security footage, promising to reveal Banksy’s identity for the first time…
It is part of their Canimation section, which sees the fusing together of street art and animation in these innovative films and celebrates the crossover between these two contemporary art forms. Encounters International Film Festival Animation Programme Manager Keiran Argo, programmed the Canimation strand to celebrate Bristol’s major role in the development and recognition of both animation and urban art.
He said: “The programme would have been incomplete without a local contribution so the hunt was on for something special. What Banksy didn’t bargain for when recently stencilling the back wall of Aardman’s new building was the discreet CCTV sustem they had installed allowing us for the first time to put a face to a name. All will be revealed in the programme…”
Liz Harkman, MD of the Encounters International Film Festival, added: Canimation is going to be one of the highlights of this year’s festival. The whole team at Encounters are entirely fascinated by Bristol’s incredible heritage in both street art and animation. The programme is the ideal way to celebrate this in 2010.”
