REVIEW: TWIN ATLANTIC AT CARDIFF CLWB IFOR BACH (02/02/11)
It would be just an understatement to say that 2010 was not a fantastic year for Scottish rockers Twin Atlantic. The band sold out the 1250 Glasgow ABC arena for their hometown show, went on a European tour, toured the US and got to support some of the biggest names in music including Blink 182, My chemical Romance and The Gaslight Anthem. This year, their tour sees them play Cardiff’s legendary Clwb Ifor Bach. The band are certainly no strangers to performing in Cardiff having previously performed in the late barfly on numerous of occasions. Supporting Twin Atlantic was Cardiff’s very own pop punk rockers Straight Lines (who are supporting the band on eleven of their dates) and Town from Newport (Cardiff only) – who are definitely a band to watch out for this year, the band have a unique punk sound drawing comparisons to The Jam and the clash. Straight Lines played a tight and energetic set, the highlight of which was ‘Perfect Mistakes’. Twin Atlantic tonight opened with ‘Edit Me’. a song full of attitude and one which fired the crowd into action. The band seemed very eager to play new material tonight despite the album not being released for another few months. They stepped the pace up with the epic ‘What Is Light? Where Is Laughter?’, McTrusty obviously keen to impress the Cardiff crowd. Vocalist and guitarist Sam Mctrusty has an unorthodox stage presence that can get the crowd in the palm of his hands instantly. ‘Closer audience’ and ‘Audio went down a storm and received the best reaction from the crowd. Twin Atlantic showed tonight why they are becoming a dominate name in the music industry and why so many bands wants them on their tours. 2011 is easily going to be a massive year for Twin Atlantic. Catch them in these intimate venues when you can. Twin atlantics next album is due out in May 2011.
