COURTNEY PINE TO PLAY EXETER VIBRAPHONIC FESTIVAL 2011
Vibraphonic, the festival of reggae, hip hop, blues, jazz, electronica and all things funky, returns to Exeter this year from March 18 – 3 April 2011 with a range of concerts, events, club nights, bar sessions and workshops in venues across the city.
Highlights this year include:
Analogue To Digital – the digital music expo with hands-on demos, live shows and workshops by world-renowned music industry experts, artists and manufacturers of digital recording and production, guitar and bass technology (Sat 19 @ Exeter Phoenix)
Pigbag – the re-formed 80’s alternative funk band known for their infectious hit ’Papa’s Got A Brand New Pigbag’ (Fri 18 @ Exeter Phoenix).
Kinoteka – a festival of Polish films, food and music (Sun 20 Mar – 3 April @ Exeter Phoenix)
Courtney Pine – the UK’s premier jazz saxophonist with a set based on his new album ‘Europa’ which reflects numerous continental influences (Sun 20 @ Exeter Phoenix)
The Green Man – the mythical figure returns to the city centre from sunrise on the spring equinox (Mon 21 across the city)
Mike Westbrook’s Big Band – the mainstay of the British jazz scene for 40+ years and Devon resident leads a new big band (Thu 24 @ Exeter Phoenix)
Example – the UK rapper who broke through last year with four Top 40 hits (Fri 25 @ The Lemongrove, Exeter University)
Dele Sosimi’s Afrobeat Orchestra – the man behind the acclaimed stage show ‘Fela!’ and who was also the main man in both Fela Kuti’s and Femi Kuti’s bands in the 80’s and 90’s, now leads his own outfit (Fri 25 @ Exeter Phoenix)
The Abyssinians – classic Jamaican roots reggae (Sat 26 @ Exeter Phoenix)
Sub Focus – the latest drum and bass star to follow in the footsteps of Pendulum and Chase ‘n’ Status (Fri 1 @ The Lemongrove, Exeter University)
