Who says you need to live in the Big Smoke for all the biggest and best events? Showcase Cinema de Lux in Bristol is upping its game and hosting some special live link ups with London.

On Wednesday 19 January at 7.15pm, the Cabot Circus cinema will present one of the greatest and most popular works of dance live on the big screen via satellite from The Royal Opera House in London. Giselle is one of the most influential of all romantic ballets, taking the audience on a journey through a Woman’s love in the face of betrayal. The title role is renowned as one of the most technically demanding and emotionally challenging in classical dance, and is always performed by leading ballerinas of The Royal Ballet.
Giselle is the must see for the New Year, and classical fans can catch it first hand at Showcase Cinema de Lux Bristol. With a breath-taking production from Peter Wright, The Royal Ballet’s finest dancers, and a captivating stage setting, this powerful piece of ballet will offer something a little different this January.

The following day (Thursday January 20) at 8.45pm Cinema de Lux Bristol will be showing Ride, Rise, Roar, a concert film that profiles Talking Heads vocalist David Byrne, followed by a live Q with the man himself beamed directly from London. Following from Jonathan Demme’s ground-breaking Talking Heads documentary Stop Making Sense in 1984, Ride, Rise, Roar is a David Byrne concert film that blends riveting onstage performances with intimate details of the creative collaborations that make the music and performance happen. Shot with multiple cameras over several concerts during the 08/09 tour, the film blends the energy and charisma of classic Talking Heads tracks with the heartfelt pathos of David Byrne and Brian Eno’s most recent collaboration, Everything That Happens Will Happen Today. Between the songs, the film achieves an unprecedented intimacy with David Byrne and the band by documenting behind-the-scenes auditions, rehearsals, and interviews with key players, while revealing the creative process that led to the show’s unique fusion of pop music and modern dance.
