Britain’s First Dual Up Hill Bike Challenge took place on Park Street, Bristol on 29th January as 32 cyclists went head to head in an attempt to settle the lively debate of which kind of bike is best uphill and become the first Red Bull Hill Chasers champion.

A straight knockout format with two racers against each other saw fixies, bmxers, mountain bikers and road racers battle against each other in a lung busting hill climb the full length of Park Street. Road racer Chris Metcalfe prevailed on his road bike to settle the lively dispute which had developed in intensity throughout the night. Local hero Tom Palmer from Sea Mills in Bristol raised a few eyebrows with his march to the quarter finals on his BMX, with other Bristolian Ed Trotman from Southville putting in a strong performance. The top three riders who ended up on the podium collecting Charge Bikes in bronze, silver and gold were Ben Superior Third, local Siston hero Paul Derrick in second and champion Chris Metcalfe taking gold.
