INTERVIEW WITH CAMO & KROOKED

You’ve had quite a summer, tell us more about what you’ve been up to?
The most exciting thing for us this summer was playing all the big festivals throughout Europe in front of some of the best crowds we have ever played to. Besides that we had quite a busy time finishing everything for the album and preparing our live-show for the Autumn.

You’ve also enjoyed a fair bit of airplay on the radio, how important do you think that is?
Radio is quite important for an artist as it plays your music to a whole different and wider audience. But nowadays there are much more channels available like Youtube, Soundcloud and Facebook to promote your music, so artists aren’t that dependent on radio to get exposure anymore, which is a good chance for indie labels to get some attention too.

How does the UK D&B scene compare to elsewhere in Europe?
The difference between UK and most other countries is that a lot of people at the parties know the genre pretty well and know the history and the classics.

What’s the best thing about being signed to a label like Hospital?
Hospital Records are really supporting us a lot on our way and are letting us have total freedom of creativity, which is probably the most important thing for us. It feels more like a family than a business and the Hospitality parties are just the best DnB events we have ever played at!

What can people expect from your gigs?
On our DJ gigs we play a fast and energetic set on 3 CDJs, containing special versions of our own hits, forthcoming dubs and some classic teases. Furthermore we just started our LIVE show. We have Ayah Marar and TC on the vocals and Messy MC as the host, and an incredible LED-cage is responsible for an unique visual experience.

Have you done any noteworthy collaborations? And are there any you’d like to do?
On our album we have collaborations with quite a few artists and vocalists like Jenna G, Ayah Marar, TC, Futurebound and a couple more. Furthermore we did some ghostwriting for Professor Green’s album which should be out very soon aswell. If we could choose someone to write a tune together it would be Wolfgang Gartner at the moment as he has some very interesting productions.

Catch Camo & Crooked as well as High Contrast, Danny Byrd and Netsky at Hospitality Records’ In:Motion event at Motion in Bristol on Friday October 7. More info HERE.
