INTRODUCING…EMPTY POOLS

Summarise the Empty Pools story so far in three words…

Lamppost love story.

What can people expect from your new release?

Uncertain disco dream pop b/w frustrated scratchy smut-rock.

Why did you decide to release it on vinyl?

There are technologically challenged members of our families who still don’t believe the band exists; we thought it about time to branch out from the digital realm.

How is Bristol treating you and any plans to spread your wings further afield yet?

Bristol has been fabulous. We have received an optimal number of unsolicited embraces (0). And yes! We have a UK tour coming up at the end of November with Menomena, which is pretty much as ideal as a first tour gets.

You were recently mentioned in some coverage of Pussy Riot right? Tell us about that…

Yeah, we were interviewed briefly for a Guardian piece about their influence on bands. It’s a terrifying reminder that so much of what we do without a second thought is considered criminal elsewhere. It’s a reminder to make every note count.

What’s the worst thing someone has said about you to date? And the best?

Worst? That we sound like a cross between early Red Hot Chili Peppers and Moloko. Best? That we sound like a cross between early Red Hot Chili Peppers and Moloko.

What is the most interesting thing about you?

Oh, the usual. We bowl. Drive around. The occasional acid flashback.

See Empty Pools play live at Figure 8 Festival in Dorset on Sept 22 (more info here), at Rise Bristol on Sept 28, Bristol’s Louisiana on Sept 29 and Bristol Grain Barge on Nov 30. More info at http://emptypools.co.uk/
