Sailor Jerry will be making its mark this year by bringing the art of old-school tattooing to two of the most colourful summer festivals – Big Chill and Bestival.
Designed in the style of a 1930’s tattoo parlour, Sailor Jerry’s Ink City will be at the Big Chill and Bestival paying homage to the late Norman ‘Sailor Jerry’ Collins, the founding father of tattooing and the man behind the spiced Caribbean spirit that bears his name.
Sailor Jerry’s Ink City will be a unique experience and chance for festival goers to see first-hand the live craftsmanship of a number of classic Norman Collins designs inked by tattoo artists. Authentic pieces of tattoo equipment displayed alongside classic Sailor Jerry artwork will provide the backdrop.
The stage will also play host to a bill of authentic acts across the two festivals, including surprise live acts and DJ line ups have also been planned.
Acts playing the Sailor Jerry stage at the Big Chill in Herefordshire on Aug 6-8 are We Were Promised Jetpacks, Fiction, Goldhawks, Racehorses, The Boy Who Trapped the Sun and Not Cool among others.
And at Bestival on the Isle of Wight September 10-12 is White Rabbits, I Blame Coco, Chrome Hoof, Errors, Bookhouse Boys, Ou Est Le Swimming Pool, Egyptian Hip Hop and Skibunny plus more.
Screenings of Hori Smoku Sailor Jerry, a short film about the life and work of Norman Collins, will take place throughout the evening for those keen to soak up the artistry and visionary innovations of Collins’ inspirational body art. Encompassing the spirit of the event, fans will be treated to a number of classic serves including Sailor & ginger and Sailor & cola.
Man’s Ruin, a unique serve created by Sailor Jerry ambassador Emma-Li Stenhouse as a nod to Norman Collins and his uncompromising originality will be on offer throughout the night at the Ink City bar, mixing a Sailor Jerry shot with white peach puree, cranberry juice, a dash of peach bitters and a slice of orange to garnish. Festival goers will be invited to enjoy the drink in the Ink City back yard, providing the perfect spot to soak up Ink City.
