REVIEW: DETROIT SOCIAL CLUB AT BRISTOL LOUISIANA (07/03/11)
The band stroll on stage just after 10pm to a sold out Bristol Louisiana. Front man David Burn is clearly eager to start proceedings as he bounces around the small stage almost banging his head on the ceiling. They launch straight into epic ‘Rivers & Rainbows’ and the energy in the 120 capacity venue is awesome. ‘Kiss The Sun’ has to be among the most well received songs of the night with the majority of the crowd singing along. Some minor sound problems were fixed after singer Burn’s joked to the sound-man “Houston we have a problem”. He then played a large part of ‘Black & White’ with just his acoustic guitar and the whole band followed with groovy beat driven ‘Silver’. Keeping the same level of energy throughout their electric performance they delivered ‘Prophecy’ and ‘Sunshine People’ with true passion. Declaring why they left their record label to form their own, Burn’s remarked about the song ‘Chemistry’, “This should have been the single!”. Closer ‘Northern Man’, which is frequently used on Sky Sports’ coverage of the football gives a great end to a brilliant set. Having supported the likes of Primal Scream and Oasis and being tipped by NME to be the next big thing. Detroit Social Club are certainly a band to go and watch live and one to keep and eye on for the future.
